Dear Ocean City Neighbor,

We are Our Ocean City—and we believe it's time for a change.

On May 12th, Ocean City voters have the opportunity to elect a new mayor and choose council members who stand for competence, transparency, and a genuine commitment to the people who live, work, and play here.

The era of decisions for insiders and short-term profit-takers needs to end. 

Our Ocean City is us—residents who believe we have a once in a lifetime opportunity to set a promising course for our town.

• We are ready to reimagine the Boardwalk’s north end as a right-sized development, inclusive of a boutique hotel, in harmony with our neighborhood and existing businesses.

• We are ready to say “No more!” to mismanagement of our money that has tripled our town’s debt, despite a healthy tax base and a world-class tourist market.

• We are ready to say, “Yes, please!” to new leadership that brings the members of our community together — not divides them— to find a path forward and is committed to transparency and informed compromise.

• And we are ready to say, “Yes!” to development that values the people who live here, own homes here, run businesses here, have families here, and want to live here.

Our Ocean City

Ocean City is remarkable.
Why aren’t we flying higher?

Mayor Jay Gillian—and misguided decisions and actions by certain members of City Council.  

• Decisions made for self-interest. 

• Development that benefits insiders, not residents.

• Government leaders that operate in the shadows—and for themselves. 

• Decisions made for the short-term, not the long haul.

• Tripled city debt and no plan to halt the spending spree.

There is no better example of this chaos than 600 Boardwalk. When the park closed, it was a major loss. But it could also have been a great opportunity to create something amazing, a new anchor to the entertainment experience on our Boardwalk.

Instead, what did we get? 

Absolutely no plan when the closure was announced.

• No strategy for long-term zoning questions, despite Ocean City citizens imploring the city to run a master plan process to determine comprehensive, fact-based solutions.

• Nothing but a push for an outsized hotel by Mayor Jay Gillian and council members Pete Madden and Tony Polcini. A scar on our boardwalk that creates a parking nightmare and does nothing for our economy other than to shift dollars from existing venues to one developer.

And all of this occurred without the mayor ever disclosing his massive debts to the developer, and without certain council members disclosing possible conflicts of interest.

We deserve better.

Ocean City needs leaders that work for you, for all of us living here, not their buddies. We need leaders focused on the long-term health and welfare of our city, not their personal interests. We need leaders that lead, in good times and bad, with clarity of purpose, for the betterment of the entire town.
